Jesus

Jesus

Who is Jesus?

JESUS IS GOD. JESUS IS THE SON OF GOD. JESUS IS THE SON OF MAN

These three statements can be found in the bible and as paradoxical as they may sound, they are all true. ecclēsia believe that JESUS is THE TRUTH, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Our mission is to understand His truth and live out our lives in response to it: His Law, His Desires, His Way.

We believe that:

JESUS IS GOD

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:1

The Bible teaches that JESUS is the Most High God Himself: manifesting all the attributes of God. From the scriptures, we see that JESUS is our Creator. JESUS is omniscience: He is all-knowing. JESUS is omnipresent: He is everywhere. JESUS is omnipotent: He is all-powerful.

JESUS is the Son of GOD

The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.

Luke 1:35

JESUS has the unparalleled honour and unique glory of being from the beginning of time. He is not God’s Son in the sense of having a human father and a son relationship, but He is God’s Son in that He was conceived in Mary by the Holy Spirit.

JESUS is the SON of MAN

And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:14

The Scriptures are rich with the many names of Christ (Emmanuel, the Light of the world, the Lord of lords and King of kings, the Lion and the Lamb), but, chiefly, Jesus referred to Himself as ‘The SON of MAN’ attesting to the fact that He is fully God, but also fully human.

Jesus to Us

Jesus divided opinion in His time and He still does now. The Pharisees saw Him as a blasphemer; His disciples knew him as a Master but came to recognise Him as the Messiah sent to atone for our sins and reconciles us with God (Romans 5:10).

JESUS – A Sinner’s Saviour

Look at him! A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!

Matthew 11:19

JESUS lived a perfect life; however, He kept less than honourable company. He consorted with prostitutes, tax collectors, and societies’ down, and outs. He ate with them, He lived with them, He loved them, and His obedience to the Father saw Him give up His life for them, and us, on the cross.

JESUS – A Personal Friend

Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.

John 15:13

Far from a distant Saviour and King, JESUS is a personal friend. The Scriptures tell that us “we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.” JESUS’ act of dying on the cross is the greatest act of friendship offered to mankind throughout eternity, and His blood continues to atone for our sins today.
